Winter season is drawing to a close and the Artichoke baseball squad is setting up for another season.

This year the Chokes' want to take the conference. "We are definitely looking to get first place, anything below first place is failure," sophomore Patrick Fullam said.

The Artichokes are looking to improve on last season's 20-30 record. "Last year we struggled a lot," Fullam said. "This year we are buying in and working really hard, putting in twice the effort."

SCC baseball head coach Alex Cherney discusses how their veterans can step up to the plate this year and perform.

"There is a big difference for us, between an 18-year-old freshman and a 19-year-old sophomore," Cherney said. "Most of it has to do with how they mature as people."

"We've got some more leadership this year," sophomore Scott Zouga said.

Leadership and maturity is a big factor for this year's team, with sophomores returning to this year's line-up.

"(We have) a stronger chance of winning just on experience a lone," sophomore A.J. Robinson said.

Other than the Artichokes having a solid sophomore class, the team has also received transfers. Last year the Chokes were just a few good hits short from winning their games. They are looking to be more of a force offensively.

"I think we are going to be strong, our offense is looking really good; we are hitting the ball, our pitching is looking really good, too," Michael Sullivan said.

As for Cherney he has a philosophy he keeps every season.

"It doesn't matter what you do as a coach, you believe in certain things," Cherney said. "(You) want to do things a certain way, sometimes you get

them right, sometimes you don't. Sometimes it takes some time to get them right."
